ITA: Johnny Dep, l’uomo che  ha contribuito alla sua liberazione dal braccio della morte di Arkansas, è diventato come un fratello per Damien Echols, fino al punto di farsi tatuaggi identici.
“Ne abbiamo un po”, ha detto Depp toccandosi un tatuaggio sul lato destro del petto, mdurante la conferenza stampa di al Toronto Film Festival, per sostenere il documentario, “West of Memphis,” su Damien Echols e su i suoi due co -imputati.
“Questo lo ha progettato Damien. E ‘uno dei miei preferiti, e significa un bel po’ per me”.
Echols ha detto che  ogni volta che si riuniscono, lui e Depp, spesso finiscono in un negozio di tatuaggi. Depp ha ribattuto che lo fanno per ”celebrare il momento.”
La sua amicizia con Echols è cresciuta nel corso di quasi due decenni: “C’è stata una connessione immediata, una sorta di amore fraterno. E ‘stato immediato, “  ha detto. “Per poi vedere finalmente Damien arrivare a casa mia, alla mia porta, libero di muoverssi e fare  festa. E ‘stato bello. Avevamo Tator Tots e tacos. E le cose hanno seguito il loro corso naturale, e… siamo finiti al negozio di tatuaggi. ”
Echols, Jessie Misskelley, e Jason Baldwin hanno trascorso 18 anni in prigione per omicidio nel 1993 di tre bambini di 8 anni a West Memphis. Tutti e tre sono stati rilasciati dopo aver accettato un accordo Alford che ha permesso lorodi dimostrare la loro innocenza.
I tre sono stati i temi dei  documentari di “Paradise Lost”, e hanno catturato l’interesse di Depp sul caso.
Depp, insieme a Eddie Vedder dei Pearl Jam, Natalie Maines delle Dixie Chicks, il musicista Henry Rollins, e il regista Peter Jackson, hanno prodotto “West of Memphis”, e aiutato a pagare le spese legali per liberare i tre uomini. Echols ha detto che non avrebbe potuto sopravvivere senza di loro. “Se non fosse stato per Peter Jackson e Fran Walsh, o Johnny che  ci stanno aiutando – eravamo senza casa.
Il 37enne Echols, indossa sempre gli occhiali da sole, a causa della troppa sensibilità alla luce,  dopo aver trascorso tanti anni in una cella di prigione. Echols ha detto che il supporto Depp però non si è limitato al tempo in cui era in prigione.
“E ‘stato con noi ogni singolo passo del cammino. Dal momento che siamo venuti fuori, è diventato come un fratello per me. E tatuarsi  è una delle cose che facciamo sempre e  solo come parte di quel speciale legame, che  è  esso stesso come un tatuaggio, qualcosa che porti sempre con te per il resto della tua vita ed è davvero significativo. ”

The man Johnny Depp helped release from Arkansas’ death row has become like a brother to him, right down to getting matching tattoos.

“We have some,” Depp said Saturday as he touched a tattoo on the right side of his chest.

“This one Damien designed. It’s one of my all-time favorites, and it means quite a lot to me,” Depp told The Associated Press before the premiere of the documentary, “West of Memphis,” about Damien Echols and his two co-defendants.

Echols said whenever he and Depp get together, they often end up in a tattoo parlor. Depp said it’s about “celebrating the moment.”

Said Depp of his friendship with Echols that has thrived over nearly two decades:    “There was an instant connection, some brotherly kind of love there. It was instant,” he said. “To finally see Damien arrive at my house, on my doorstep, was moving and it was a celebration. It was beautiful. We had Tator Tots and tacos. And things took their natural course and we ended up at the tattoo parlor.

Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin spent 18 years in prison for the 1993 murders of three 8-year old boys in West Memphis. All three were released after agreeing to an Alford plea that allowed them to maintain their innocence while pleading guilty.

The three were the subjects of the “Paradise Lost” documentaries, which captured Depp’s interest in the case.

“You saw those initial documentaries, you make a choice: Am I going to watch the thing and go ‘Wow, that’s really horrible,’ and go out and get a milkshake,” Depp said.

Depp, along with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, musician Henry Rollins, and filmmaker Peter Jackson, who produced “West of Memphis,” helped pay the legal fees to free the three men.

The 37-year old Echols always wears sunglasses, a product of not seeing much daylight after spending so many years in a prison cell. Echols said Depp’s support wasn’t limited to Echols’ time in prison.

“He’s been with us every single step of the way. Since we’ve gotten out, he’s become like a brother to me. And that’s one of the things we always do just as part of that bond is whenever you get tattoos like that, it’s something you carry with you through the rest of your life and it’s really meaningful.”

Echols said he could not have survived without them.    “If it weren’t for Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, or Johnny helping us – we were homeless, we left Arkansas like refugees.
