Per il film di fantascienza che segna d’esordio del direttore della fotografia Wally Pfister dal titolo Transcendence il ruolo da protagonista è stato affidato a Johnny Depp. Ma chi affiancherà l’attore sul set? Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt e Rebecca Hall sembrano essere le candidate principali.
Qualche aggiornamento su Transcendence, il film sci-fi che rappresenta il debutto alla regia di Wally Pfister, nome noto più per essere il fedele direttore della fotografia del regista Christopher Nolan, con cui lavora da Memento nel 2000, e per aver guadagnato ben quattro nomination all’Oscar con Batman Begins, The Prestige, Il cavaliere oscuro e Inception. Per quest’ultimo film, Pfister ha vinto l’ambita statuetta.
Dopo essersi aggiudicato niente meno che Johnny Depp per il ruolo del protagonista in Transcendence, Pfister è ora alla ricerca dell’attrice giusta per il ruolo della moglie di Depp e, da quel che riporta Deadline, sembrano esserci già tre nomi in lizza per la parte della consorte Evelyn: Rooney Mara (esplosa con la versione americana di Uomini che odiano le donne e prossimamente in Side Effects), Emily Blunt (Looper, All You Need Is Kill) e Rebecca Hall (The Town, Iron Man 3).
La decisione su chi sarà confermata per il ruolo della protagonista femminile da affiancare a Johnny Depp sarà presa a brevissimo, addirittura venerdì. Ed effettivamente le tenpistiche sono molto strette poiché le riprese della pellicola inizieranno il 4 marzo 2013. Vi terremo aggiornati.
Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister is gearing up to make his directorial debut, and casting is firming up on sci-fi tale “Transcendence”, already starring Johnny Depp. Deadline reports the search for the female lead is narrowing and may be decided by this Friday.
The final three are Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall, though Deadline warns Blunt could have scheduling conflicts with currently filming Tom Cruise actioner “All You Need is Kill.” Filming is set to begin on March 4th and the chosen actress will play a scientist named Evelyn, who is married to and uploads Depp’s character Will’s brain onto a supercomputer after his death. Casting is also underway for Max, a male friend of the couple, who helps Evelyn in protecting Will’s new form. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are executive producing for their longtime collaborator Pfister, while the screenplay came from newcomer Jack Paglen.
All three actresses seem way too young to play Depp’s wife, though Hall seems like the best fit to play a scientist to us. She is, however, already playing one in “Iron Man 3″ and could be in danger of being typecast if she plays both these characters back to back. Mara, too, has tread upon seemingly similar territory, recently wrapping up filming on Spike Jonze’s “Her”, which sees Joaquin Phoenix as a man in love with a computer. Blunt is also familiar with sci-fi, most recently having appeared in Rian Johnson’s exceptional time travel thriller “Looper.”

Transcendence: Pfister elogia Depp
Un progetto top secret, quello per il quale è attualmente in trattative Johnny Depp: all’attore è stato proposto un ruolo in Transcendence, misteriosa pellicole che segna l’esordio alla regia del direttore della fotografia Wally Pfister.
Stando alle dichiarazioni di Pfister e dei produttori, tuttavia, sembra che la partecipazione di Depp al film, sia solo da ufficializzare:
“Sono veramente entusiasta e mi sento davvero fortunato ad avere la possibilità di lavorare con Johnny” – ha detto Pfister – “E’ un artista creativo e intelligente e sono certo che saprà dare spessore al personaggio e alla storia“.
Gli hanno fatto eco Broderick Johnson e Andrew Kosove della Alcon, secondo i quali “Depp è uno degli attori più carismatici e talentuosi che si possano immaginare e siamo davvero felici di averlo con noi per questo film”
Sul film in questione però, si sa ben poco, perchè la trama è assolutamente top secret e si sa soltanto che la sceneggiatura firmata dall’esordiente Jack Paglen, è stata poi sviluppata da Annie Marter, che è anche tra i produttori insieme a Marisa Polvino, Kate Kohen, David Valdes e ovviamente i due founder della Alcon, Johson e Kosove.
Pfister, che ha vinto un Oscar per la fotografia di Inception, è conosciuto per aver collaborato in diverse occasioni con Christopher Nolan, a partire dal 1999, quando il regista lo volle per Memento. Tra gli altri film per i quali Pfister ha curato la fotografia, ricordiamo L’arte di vincere – Moneyball, The Prestige e The Italian Job. Per quanto riguarda Depp, dopo Dark Shadows l’attore ha rinnovato l’appuntamento con il suo pubblico alla prossima estate, con l’uscita di The Lone Ranger.

ENG The Lone Ranger has tangled with a good many desperados over his career — but he may have met his match, in an unnamed Bureau of Land Management employee.
The Moab Sun Newsreports on a conflict between this BLM employee and the film crew that was making the big-budget Disney Western “The Lone Ranger” in southern Utah last month. (The movie, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, is slated to be released next summer.)
The conflict began when the production tried to alter its permit, to allow them to film 50 horsemen riding 50 abreast for one scene — instead of riding two abreast as originally planned. While that would make a cooler shot, the BLM employee was concerned how the change would affect the site’s cryptobiotic soil (a fragile desert ecosystem) and local vegetation.
Ultimately the problem was smoothed out and the production got its shot — but Tara Penner, director of the Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission, and Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison expressed concern with the way the BLM handled the whole thing.
When interviewed, the cryptobiotic soil said only, “Who was that unnamed BLM employee? I wanted to thank her.”
