Freedom Fighter è un track del nuovo album degli Aerosmith in cui ha partecipato Johnny Depp come voce del coro insieme al suo amico Bruce Witkin.

RollingStone.com presenterà in anteprima musicale il nuovo album degli Aerosmith “Music From Another Dimension”, una traccia alla volta, nelle settimane precedenti alla versione definitiva del 6 novembre.
La politica non compare nelle canzoni degli Aerosmith, e questa è la cosa che piace di più a Joe Perry. Ma il chitarrista è indignato per la storia del signore della guerra africano Joseph Kony, il quale Esercito di Resistenza del Signore è stato ampiamente condannato per rapimento di migliaia di bambini per trasformarli in soldati e schiavi del sesso vicino l’ Uganda. Perry ha appreso di queste atrocità in seguito a materiale documentario che si è diffuso (Jason Russell Kony 2012), e che lo ha profondamente ispirato.
Lui stesso canta “Freedom Fighter” , ringhiando tra i livelli irregolari di chitarra rock, parla dei documentaristi come “combattenti per la libertà.” Kony è stato incriminato per crimini di guerra da parte della Corte penale internazionale. Nella canzone, Perry attacca i guerrieri alle spalle, che rapiscono i figli e diffondono la morte: “Le armi che portano e le bombe che fate / Causano troppe lacrime, troppi cuori infranti”
E ‘una delle due canzoni in “Music From Another Dimension” che vuole Perry come voce solista.
L’attore Johnny Depp e il produttore Jack Douglas sono nel coro. Il bassista Tom Hamilton parla del brano come “una canzone hard rock”
“Il nostro scopo era quello di evitare di parlare di politica e cose del genere”, dice Perry, “ma mi ha toccato così fortemente quello che sta facendo questo uomo [Kony], e penso a tutti i combattenti per la libertà che sono là fuori che fanno tanto del bene andando al fronte con telecamere nastro e registratori. Sono combattenti per la libertà, e bisogna levarsi il cappello e mostrare rispetto per quel tipo di persone. Ero veramente commosso”
La canzone finale è hard rock, con rimbalzi di chitarre e tastiere. “La cosa più difficile è stato scegliere i testi perché ho scritto così tanto versi per quest’ album”, dice Perry. “La musica è un aggiunta perché la canzone doveva avere unità e potenza. Non mi importa davvero se sembrava musica degli AC / DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith o che -. Che doveva avere il potere di catturare per la questione del combattente della libertà”

Guitarist wrote song about child soldiers in Uganda

RollingStone.com will be premiering Aerosmith’s Music From Another Dimension! album, one track at a time, in the weeks leading up to the November 6th release.
Politics doesn’t come up a lot in Aerosmith songs, and that’s just as Joe Perry likes it. But the guitarist has been outraged by the story of African warlord Joseph Kony, whose Lord’s Resistance Army has been widely condemned for abducting thousands of children as soldiers and sex slaves in and around Uganda. Perry learned of the atrocity as a result of documentary footage that has gone viral (Jason Russell’s Kony 2012), and found himself deeply inspired by the documentary filmmakers behind it.
Perry sings “Freedom Fighter” himself, growling across jagged layers of rock guitar of the documentarians he calls “freedom fighters.” Kony has been indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court. In the song, Perry attacks the warriors behind him who are kidnapping children and spreading death: “The guns you carry and the bombs you make / Cause too many tears, too many hearts to break.”
It’s one of two songs on Music From Another Dimension! to feature Perry on lead vocals. Actor Johnny Depp and producerJack Douglas are on background vocals. Bassist Tom Hamilton calls the track “a blazing rock song.”
“We don’t really get into politics and stuff,” says Perry, “but I felt so strongly about this guy [Kony], and the freedom fighters that are out there who do so much good by going to the front lines with cameras and tape recorders. They’re freedom fighters, and it was a tip of the hat to those kind of people. I was really so moved.”
The final song is stripped down hard rock, with ricocheting guitars and keyboards.”The hardest thing was picking the lyrics because I wrote so many verses for it,” says Perry. “The music came as an afterthought because it had to have the drive and the power. I didn’t really care if it sounded like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith or what – it had to have the drive to capture the freedom fighter thing.”
