Johnny & Patti Smith

In una intervista al “The Sun”,Patti Smith racconta la sua grande amicizia con l’attore Johnny Depp:

“Ho conosciuto Johnny circa 5 anni fa,lui Vanessa e la figlia erano venuti ad un mio concerto a Los Angeles,poi sono venuti nel backstage per un saluto, e cosi’ da quel giorno e’ nata una grande amicizia tra di noi…. Ho perso mio Fratello,ed ho pianto molto,ma posso dire in tutta sincerita’ che lui e’ il mio nuovo fratello! Noi amiamo gli stessi libri. Si parla continuamente di letteratura francese e Jack Kerouac e Dylan Thomas. Ci divertiamo molto insieme,ridiamo e scherziamo, e poi lui è un grande musicista. Ha collaborato con me in una canzone del mio nuovo album,Banga, in uscita il 5 Giugno,dove nella parte finale da veramente una carica notevole alla canzone! Scherzo del destino, nel disco ci sono due canzoni, “Banga” e “Seneca”, che ho scritto a bordo della Costa Concordia tempo prima del naufragio. Rimasi schoccata dalla notizia…”

The guitarist also features on Nine, a song Patti wrote for her friend Johnny Depp’s birthday.

How, I ask, did she get to know Hollywood star Depp. “I met Johnny about five years ago. He and Vanessa (Paradis, his wife)and their daughter came to my concert in Los Angeles and said hello backstage.

“We just really hit it off. I lost my brother and really mourned him and it felt like he sent Johnny Depp to be my new brother.

“We love the same books. We talk endlessly about French literature and Jack Kerouac and Dylan Thomas. We just have fun and a laugh and he’s such a great musician.”

Patti describes how she hooked up with the actor in Puerto Rico while he was filming The Rum Diary and how he helped her create a demo for Banga’s title track. It was so good that his guitar line opens the final mix.

“Johnny leads the charge for Banga. At the top of the song, it’s all me and him!”
